Roblox respects the intellectual property rights of others, and we ask everyone in our community to do the same. This page explains how to report content you believe infringes your rights, how to respond if your content is removed, and what happens to accounts that repeatedly infringe.
Roblox's IP Policy
Roblox prohibits the unauthorized use of intellectual property, and removes from the Roblox platform content that violates this policy. Additionally, in appropriate circumstances, Roblox suspends or terminates the accounts and blocks access of users who repeatedly or egregiously infringe the intellectual property rights of third parties.
Any abuse of Roblox's IP Policy and processes is strictly prohibited.

Copyright and trademark basics
What is copyright?
Copyright is a legal protection granted for original works of authorship. Copyright protects many different types of creative works including music, movies, pictures, and books, among others. Copyright does not protect facts or ideas, but it may protect the specific expression of a fact or idea. To learn more about copyright, visit the U.S. Copyright Office.
It is important to note that you can still infringe a copyright even if you:
- Didn't monetize your content.
- Credited the original creator.
- Downloaded the content from the internet.
- Purchased a physical copy of the content (DVD, game, etc.).
- Saw other people include the same material in their content.
- Didn't intend to infringe or thought that your use was a fair use.
What is a trademark?
A trademark is a name, logo, or design that identifies the source of goods or services and helps distinguish the goods or services of one source from competing sources. To learn more about trademarks, visit the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

How to submit a copyright notice to Roblox
Copyright owners or an agent of a copyright owner may report any content on Roblox that they believe infringes their copyright by submitting a copyright notice to our Copyright Agent:
- Email: copyright_agent@roblox.com
- Physical mail: Legal, Roblox Corporation, 3150 S. Delaware St., San Mateo, CA 94403
- Phone: (888) 858-2569
If you are over 18, you may also be able to submit a copyright notice using our IP Platform.
If you are under 13, a parent, guardian, or other adult representative must submit the copyright notice on your behalf.
What you need to include in your copyright notice
A copyright notice must include all of the following:
- An electronic or physical signature of the person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of the copyright being infringed.
- A description of the copyright-protected work that you claim has been infringed.
- A description of the material that you claim is infringing and where it is located (including an URL).
- Your physical address and email address.
- A statement by you that you have a good faith belief that the use of those materials is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement by you that the above information in the notice is accurate and that, under penalty of perjury, you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive copyright.
See 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) for further details.
What happens after you submit a copyright notice
If we determine that your notice is valid, we will act quickly to take down the allegedly infringing content and notify you of the removal. In some cases, we may follow up with you to request additional information needed for our review.
We may forward certain information provided in your copyright notice to the user responsible for the reported content where appropriate, including to inform the user why their content was removed. To learn more about our information sharing practices, see FAQs below.
If you are a Roblox user whose content was removed
If your content is removed due to a copyright notice, Roblox will notify you through Roblox's messaging system and by email (if an email address is associated with your account and verified). We strongly encourage you to link an email to your account as a security precaution and so you receive important notifications.
What you can do
If you believe that the content was removed or disabled because of a mistake or misidentification — for example, you have authorization to use the removed content, or fair use applies — you may contest the removal by submitting a counter notice. Alternatively, you may consider reaching out to the other party directly to resolve the issue, including requesting that they withdraw the copyright notice.
How to submit a counter notice to Roblox
You may submit a counter notice to our Copyright Agent:
- Email: copyright_agent@roblox.com
- Physical mail: Legal, Roblox Corporation, 3150 S. Delaware St., San Mateo, CA 94403
If you are under 13, a parent, guardian, or other adult representative must submit the counter notice on your behalf.
What you need to include in your counter notice
A counter notice must include all of the following:
- Your name, address, phone number, and electronic or physical signature.
- A description of the material that was removed and where it was located before it was removed (including an URL).
- A statement by you, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed.
- A statement by you that you consent to the jurisdiction of Federal District Court for the judicial district in which the address is located, or if your address is outside of the United States, for any judicial district in which the service provider may be found.
- A statement by you that you will accept service of process from the person who provided notification under 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(1)(C) or an agent of such person.
See 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3) for further details.
What happens after Roblox receives a counter notice
If we determine that your counter notice is valid, we will forward the valid counter notice to the reporter (i.e., the party who submitted the copyright notice). We generally restore the content within 14 business days unless the reporter provides information showing that they have filed a lawsuit against the counter notifier to stop the content from being restored.
FAQs
We respect privacy rights and only share your information where appropriate or as otherwise legally required.
For example, we may share the name (or Roblox username, where applicable) of the copyright owner when notifying the user whose content was removed. We may also share certain other details of your notice to help the user understand why their content was removed, and where applicable, assess how to remedy the issue or whether to submit a counter notice.
When forwarding a counter notice to the reporter, we may redact some information (such as your name and street address) where we've determined that the doxxing risk is heightened, at our discretion.
If you have concerns about your privacy or sharing your information in general, remember you can always submit a copyright notice or counter notice via an authorized representative (e.g., lawyer, enforcement vendor).
Submitting a knowingly false copyright notice or counter notice is against the law and our policy. Abusing our policy and processes to target, extort, or threaten other users is strictly prohibited. Abuse of our policy and processes, including if we determine that your notices or counter notices are fraudulent, may lead to consequences such as processing delays, tooling access restrictions, and your standing as a reporter.
If you believe that your content was removed due to an abusive notice or that the content you reported is being restored due to an abusive counter notice, please let us know by responding to the message where we notify you of the relevant removal or counter notice.
Yes. You may submit a copyright notice for content that copies your protected expression even if it has been modified, including by AI tools. In your notice, identify your original work and describe how the reported content reproduces your protected expression despite the changes. The more specifically you can point to the copied elements, the more effectively we can review your notice.
Roblox's copyright process addresses content hosted on Roblox. We generally cannot take action against content or conduct on third-party platforms, nor can we verify evidence that exists only off-platform. When you report, focus on identifying the specific content on Roblox (including URLs). For content or activity on third-party services, you may need to use that platform's own reporting process.
If a copyright matter escalates into harassment or safety concerns, report it right away, independent of any pending copyright notice or counter notice. Safety issues are handled through a different process and reviewed under our Community Standards.
